Established in 1831 on the beautiful Manning River, Taree is now the major commercial centre of the Manning Valley and is a great place to base yourself and explore this fabulous region with so much to see and do.
The First Nation Biripi people travelled the region according to the seasons and availability of food sources. They harvested the native plants and utilised them for their survival and their traditional practices.
The town derives its name from Tareebit which is the Aboriginal word for fig. Taree is indeed home of the fig, showcasing some majestic species right in town.
